UPDATE @ 17:47 – The fire is now 100% contained and due to more precise mapping, the fire in the train car is estimated at 9-10 hectares.
CAJON PASS, California (VVNG.com) – Fire crews are working on a vegetation fire at the Cajon crossing on Sunday.
An incident called the “train wagon” fire was reported at 12:05 p.m., May 22, 2022, along I-15 Highway north near Kenwood Avenue and was estimated at 15 acres.
Fire crews reported that the fire broke out along a hill with a moderate rate of spread and the potential to grow to 100 acres.
Firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service, Cal Fire and San Bernardino County arrived on the scene and worked quickly to catch the fire.
By 1:15 p.m., crews reported that the rate of spread had stopped. Several helicopters arrived on the scene and helped them with water and retardant drops.
CalTrans has no. 6 and no. 7 lanes have been closed, which is why traffic is flowing through the area, and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
