Jorge Alfaro gave moms a great gift for Mother’s Day – and many other fans as well – as he knocked on a house he left home in Petco Park on Sunday to give Padres 3-2 victory.

With the victory over the Miami Marlins, the Padreswho had been left without a score up to that point, took three of the four games in a row over the weekend.

Padre catcher hit homer against his former team with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. After the hit of Austin Nola, Jurickson Profar had stood out, but was sent off as Trent Grisham reached the selection of a home team.

CJ Abrams kept the inning alive with a single and Alfaro, who did not play until Sunday when he was called up, sent his blast to the center away, Cole Sulser’s first pitch.

Manager Bob Melvin described it as “good that you can win such a game, fight through a little adversity and make some good changes in the end”.

Joe Musgrove started for the Padres and made seven appearances, leaving two in a row and winning eight.

The Friars (19-10), however, could only keep up with the Los Angeles Dodgers. After briefly tying the Dodgers to the top of the National League West Friday, they fell 1.5 games behind Saturday. Their only defeat by the Marlins in a row, 8-0, coincided with the wiping of their opponent with a biceps in Chicago.

Now the Padres welcome the Cubs (9-17) to the city. They will send MacKenzie Gore, Mike Clevinger and Nick Martinez up the hill against Chicago, who lost again to the Dodgers on Sunday.

After a break on Thursday, the Padres embark on a nine-race road trip, traveling to Atlanta, Philadelphia and San Francisco.
