Near the end of school և summer vacations, the Santa Clarita Public Library has everything you need to keep your family busy with reading, crafts, and outdoor activities.

I invite all our residents to participate in this year’s summer reading program. The theme is “Read Beyond the Beaten Road”, which encourages residents to combine reading with camping, adventure, skill development, and more.

Get ready to take the books out of the house, immerse yourself and your family in nature. This seven-week program starts on June 6 և offers residents a wide range of interactive and engaging programs such as bonfire songs, crafts, outdoor exploration challenges, nature trash hunting իհարկե and, of course, reading.

When residents sign up for the program, everything is in their hands. Go to Library Branches for Bilingual Storytime, delve into one of the many challenges of online reading, follow through on the days you read, or create, participate in an art project. While you և your family’s reading back, you can sign up for various summer prizes and badges.

As someone who enjoys spending time with my family in our city, I’m excited that the library has expanded its four walls to include our local gardens. Children, teens, and adults programming will take place throughout the week at various local parks, stimulating all the senses. For parents of our youngest residents, be sure to bring them to our Little Researchers program. This lesson is designed for children under the age of five to enjoy interactive sensory play, art, and exploration.

One of the events I look forward to is Super Moon Hike on June 14th. Residents are invited to come to Central Park to enjoy a leisurely hike along the mountain slope to enjoy a 360-degree view of Santa Clarita soaked in the moonlight. Be sure to bring your hiking boots and lanterns to spend an unforgettable night in the park.

This year the program has a summer camp theme, which is reflected not only in our programming, but also in the three branches of the library. Each area of the library will have a camp creature that participants will be proud to present. At Old Town Newhall Branch, participants will be blue hedgehogs, while campers at the Valencia branch will be known for their purple poses. And at Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Branch, participants will be green raccoons.

I am happy to say that in addition to free programming in libraries this summer, Newhol և Canyon Country branches will be offering Lunch at the Library. This California State Library project was developed by the California Library Association, the California Summer Dining Coalition, to help provide free food for 18-year-olds.

This year, the city of Santa Clarita partnered with School Day Café to serve our locals both hot and cold meals. Young people can have their meals in the two branches from Monday to Friday, from noon to 13:00.

As a father of kids who loves to go to the library, I hope all of our residents will benefit from the wonderful programming during this summer’s reading program. With so many options available to our community members, there is something that everyone will love.
